Information Overwhelm: The Trust Yourself Prayer

I want to start this blog by talking about blogs. The fact is, there are blogs about everything. Eat raw, eat meat, pray this way, pray that way, 10 things not to do **ever**, 10 things you absolutely must do, do this kind of yoga, don't buy diamonds, 6 ways to a calmer toddler, 15 ways to be a kinder person.... And on it goes.

A whole new world of information and opinions is available to us these days. Some of it is great, and some of it is just not helpful. The hardest ones for me personally are the ones that land very close to my own position and then set a really high new standard or introduce an idea that makes me doubt my own wisdom or way of doing things.

So I have written this short 'Trust yourself' prayer to use when I am reading and learning in books and online. I hope it is useful for you too.

Dear Higher Self

Thank you for helping me to use information contained in articles, books and blogs in a healthy way.

Thank you for guiding me to my own inner wisdom and helping me use the wisdom of others to deepen my own. I have a tendency to think others are doing it better than me or that I am not doing it right. Thank you for helping me to let go of this.

Thank you for helping me read advice, articles, books and blogs gently and with quiet interest. I do not want to add to the ways in which I already criticise myself. My own standards are enough for me to deal with; I don't need anyone else's. Thank you for helping me take what is useful and makes me feel stronger, and leave anything that does not.

And when I feel called to share my own wisdom, ideas and insights, please help me to do this with gentleness, kindness and clarity. Thank you for helping me remember that I do not know what is right, I can only know what feels true for me in that moment. And the same is true for others too.

Thank you for deepening my self-trust and uncovering my own inner wisdom as I learn and expand my awareness.

Amen. (or Almond Butter as my children would say)

  1. Beautiful. Thank you for the reminder to take what advice feels right for us, and let the rest go. So much conflicting information out there, it's easy to fall into the trap of self-doubt.
